About BTB (Black Sect) Feng Shui
To put it very simply Feng Shui translates to Wind (chi-energy) and Water (fortune). So on the most basic level everything we do is to get you in alignment with fortune in all areas of life and balance Chi in your space.
Many people ask me what the difference is between the Feng Shui schools or why I practice the type that I do. I was trained in BTB, Black Sect of Tantric Buddhism, aka Black Hat Feng Shui. BTB uses Human Energy versus Earth Energy and directions. I think it most aligns to our modern lifestyles. To be honest, I just happened to be drawn to this type of Feng Shui. You might feel attached or drawn to one practitioner or style. That’s okay and you should go with whatever resonates with you. There are dozens of schools including BTB, Compass, Flying Star, Eight Mansions and Form School. The first book I picked up was my teacher, Tisha Morris’ book, “Decorating with the Five Elements of Feng Shui.” I actually thought it was more of a decor book but quickly dove deep and did my certification right afterwards. I was really drawn to the simplicity of it but also the deep, mystical parts. I believe it leaves us feeling in control of our lives and not more confused. It would make sense to stick with one school or practitioner, as the schools may contradict themselves. No one is right or wrong or better or worse. It might just depend on the intention and perhaps what is needed at the time in your life. I would like to note that you don’t need to be of any particular religion to use and practice Feng Shui.
Grandmaster Professor Lin Yun was the founder and supreme leader of contemporary Black Sect Esoteric Buddhism who brought Feng Shui to the US in the 1970s.

After years of studying and practicing meditation, His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun developed extraordinary abilities and attained a high level of spiritual enlightenment. With his power, wisdom and compassion, he devoted his entire life to help people by resolving challenges in their daily lives via Ch’i adjustments, Feng Shui consultations, sacred transcendental cures, meditations, alternative healing methods, and bestowing his blessings upon those in need.
His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun was also well-known for his unique, valuable and comprehensive teachings. Through the integration of Buddhist teachings, Yin-Yang philosophy, the theory of Ch'i, Feng Shui, spirituality, holistic healing, transcendental cures, and Chinese folklore, His Holiness Lin Yun developed his own unique and efficacious teachings, also known as Black Sect Esoteric Buddhist teachings.
Furthermore, through the use of contemporary knowledge to interpret ancient Chinese wisdom, His Holiness was able to make his teachings much more receptive, adaptable and applicable to the modern world. He revived and reinvigorated the ancient Chinese wisdom of Feng Shui and folkloric culture and transmitted his teachings to the West.
His Holiness Lin Yun’s teachings not only help people to resolve the difficulties and challenges in their daily lives, but also enhance people's well-being, elevate their spiritual level, and transform their lives. Due to the clarity, comprehensibility and efficacy of His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun’s teachings, these are now being widely practiced both in the East and the West. The recent surge of interest in Black Sect Esoteric Buddhism Feng Shui in the West can be undoubtedly attributed to the influence of His Holiness Grandmaster Lin Yun.

Black Sect Feng Shui Tradition
The Black Sect is a synthesis of Shamanic and wisdom teachings. It recognizes that there is no separation between consciousness, intention and form, that all form is an expression of intention, and that there is a constant cybernetic and emergent communication between them. Creation arises out of consciousness, the artist, the intender. Qi, the vital force, is both the medium and the message. Black Sect Feng Shui is the science/art of the constant, mutual, interactive communication and conditioning between the Qi of place or environment and the chi of individuals.
Changing the Qi of a place changes the situation's inherent intention, changing the luck/fate/karma of the inhabitants. Black Sect practitioners learn to adjust Qi at the most appropriate dimension, whether directly through meditation, using natural forces, or through Feng Shui adjustment.
As taught by Professor Lin Yun, Black Sect Feng Shui is a synthesis of Tibetan and Chinese Buddhist, Daoist, and folk wisdom as well as modern psychology and design principals. Black Sect teaching helps bring to fruition an individual's wish for positive change in accord with universal principals. Black Sect practitioners "do well by doing good," advancing themselves by benefiting others. This enlightened self interest makes the practice of Feng Shui especially appealing.
Meditation practices awaken a clear view of what is needed and appropriate to correct and balance disharmony in our environment and ourselves. By understanding the environment as a perfect expression of our spiritual and psychological states, we can use the juncture of self and home, place and being to create true comfort and joy.
